Desafío
We wanted to break a silence that lasted over 200 years.
For more than two centuries, the women who fought for independence were erased from our national history.
They had no place in textbooks, in collective memory, and especially not in Uruguay’s independence paintings. We had to give a face and a voice to the true liberators of the country.
Solución
We brought back the identity of the women who took part in the most significant milestones of Uruguay’s fight for independence.
The initiative reached the National Parliament, and on the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, for the first time in history, 20 women were honored with military distinctions.
A tribute led by Uruguay’s last three Vice Presidents: Lucía Topolansky, Beatriz Argimón, and Carolina Cosse.
